With over 1500 parking spaces available in the town centre visitors and shoppers can choose to park for free at many of the council's car parks on Thursday evenings and all day Sundays in the run up to Christmas. And, in order to boost local trade and encourage shoppers into Bournemouth the council is throwing in an extra day of free car parking for Sunday 28 December – the first Sunday after Christmas.
Councillor Robert Lawton, Cabinet Member for Environment & Transport said: "I hope people will make the most of the seven days worth of free parking in council car parks, especially the extra day we are putting on after Christmas. These are difficult times for everyone and with Christmas just around the corner people are being very careful with their purse strings. We are working closely with the Chamber of Trade to come up with new initiatives to encourage shoppers into Bournemouth and by offering our car parks for free means we can help both shoppers and the trade to enjoy the Christmas period as much as they can despite the economic downturn.”
Whether you are coming into town for shopping or entertainment you will find there is a car park only a few minutes walk from your destination. With an excellent reputation for safety and security, council owned car parks are great value for money – for example £1 will get you two hours worth of parking at the Winter Gardens, Central and Cotlands car parks.
Looking to enjoy the late night shopping evenings every Thursday night then why not take advantage of free late night parking in many of the council owned car parks every Thursday in the run up to Christmas. Each Thursday in the run up to Christmas many of the town centre shops will be staying open longer, and parking will be free after 6pm (11, 18 December).
Want to get everything done on the weekend then Bournemouth has free Sunday parking in most council owned car parks all day during the three weeks leading up to Christmas (14, 21, 28 December). |
