 Get Us Online today announce their chosen charity in the form of Julias House. Julia’s House is the Dorset children’s hospice, providing much needed care for life-limited and life-threatened children throughout the county. Most of these children are not expected to live into adulthood, which means that their families are coping with their enormously complex medical needs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and often for many years.
The role of Julia’s House is to give these families as much support as possible, whilst giving the children as much enjoyment as possible while they are still with us. The aim is to strengthen families, protect their health and wellbeing and allow them to continue to provide loving care, both in their own homes and in Julia's Houses' very special hospice. The Julia’s House hospice is an inspiring home from home, where parents can leave their children, knowing that they are receiving the best possible care. The Julia's House service is completely free.
The task for Julia's House is now to develop its service until it can cater for every one of the 200 life-limited and life-threatened children in Dorset. Day care at the hospice will gradually increase to provide more hours of care until it eventually becomes a 24 hour a day seven days a week operation. Overnight stays are expected to begin in summer 2008.
At present Julia's House only receive 3% of their funding from the government, so the majority of the essential income is raised through the generosity of the Dorset Community. In 2008 Julia’s House will need to raise £1.9 million.
